Black History Month

Black History Month is a time to honor and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and history of Black individuals throughout time. This month, we learned about influential figures, explored important moments in history, and reflected on the ongoing search for equality and justice. We will continue to embrace diversity and foster understanding, as we commit to a more inclusive future. Check out some of the student work below:

Coffee House

The HLES Coffee House fundraiser will be taking place on Thursday, March 20th at 7:00PM in the gym. Join us for an evening of music and entertainment by our incredible senior concert and jazz bands while being served unlimited desserts, coffee, tea, water and juice! The evening will also feature special guest instrumental, piano, vocal, rock and jazz performances by current and former Henry Larsen students! Entry is $5 per student/$10 per adult. All funds raised go in support of our HLES bands and school music program. We hope to see you for an amazing music filled evening!

Intermediate Winter Activity Day

Last Friday our Intermediate students participated in our Winter Activity Day. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a big success! Fun was had by all and the weather cooperated!

Luv 2 Groove

On Tuesday March 5th we will be hosting the Luv2Groove Dance Crew for a session with our Grade K through Grade 5 students.

During Luv2Groove, students will engage in dynamic warm-ups, curriculum-linked movement activities, and learn a choreographed routine. They will also explore creative expression through guided improvisation, fostering individual movement vocabulary.

Connections to the Ontario Curriculum:

Fundamental Concepts: Elements of Dance: Body, Space, Time, Energy and Relationship

A1. Creating and Presenting: Throughout each session students will explore different ways of moving their bodies in space. They will learn how to build their own movement vocabulary through across the floor exercises, movements found in their everyday lives, and using their bodies as a form of expression and more.

Fasting and Prayer space

With Ramadan beginning soon, we wanted to inform you that similar to last year, students who are fasting have the option to go to a separate space during nutrition breaks to engage in quiet activities (e.g. colouring, reading, word searches). The Fasting Spaces will be supervised by a staff member and expectations will be reviewed with students. There will be an additional (and separate) space provided where students can pray if they choose. Students will continue to participate in the regular recess schedules.
