Dear Parents(s)/Caregivers,

We just wanted to remind you that tonight’s K-5 School Council Valentine’s Day Dance has been cancelled and will be rescheduled. Our School Council is working on plans for an alternate date, and we communicate this information as soon as we can. Thank you for understanding. Tomorrow is a PA Day so there is no school for students. Monday is the Family Day Holiday so the schools will be closed. Students will return to school on Tuesday, February 18th.

PA Day - Friday February 14th

February 14, 2025 is a Professional Activity (PA) Day for elementary and secondary schools. Staff will engage in learning on key Ministry priorities: Literacy and Numeracy, and Student Well-being and Safety. There will be no school for students. 

Lost & Found: Please have your child(ren) check the Lost & Found for any missing items. We will be packing up and donating items on Friday, February 21st at the end of the school day.

Acadience Screeners - Middle of Year Screening Message from OCDSB

As part of the ongoing efforts to ensure that all children receive the support they need, educators will be rescreening all Year 2 of Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students’ foundational reading skills during February/March 2025.  This rescreening process will help us assess each student’s individual reading progress. We understand how important early literacy is in each child’s educational journey, and this rescreening will help educators tailor their instruction to better meet the needs of each student. Thank you for your partnership in ensuring that your child has the best possible learning experience

*NEW OCDSB Volunteer Screening Process

Thank you to all of our volunteers who support our students through volunteering. Whether on the School Council, attending a Field Trip or helping out around the school, your time and effort is greatly appreciated!  The current policy on Volunteers with the OCDSB is under review and in the future more police record checks will start being required to volunteer.  When you register as a Volunteer through the Ontario Network for Volunteers ONFE it is at no cost to you when “for volunteering” is checked off and it is good for 5 years! Our ask is that parents/guardians who are volunteering or would like to volunteer in the future start this process now before it comes required.

Pizza Fundraiser Reminder **Closes Monday Februrary 17th**

The Primary/Junior Division at Henry Larsen ES is holding a Little Caesars® Fundraiser to raise money for Science and Arts workshops and materials. Little Caesars® Pizza Kits contain all the ingredients to bake delicious pizza and bread at home in minutes.  There are 5 delicious Little Caesars Pizza Kits and Bread Kits to choose from: Pepperoni, Personal Cheese, Cheese, Italian Cheese Bread and Crazy Bread®.  A variety of ready to bake cookie doughs are also available.

Delivery is expected in early March 2025 and we will communicate exact details closer to the event.

Chess Club 

Henry Larsen ES is still looking for donations of Chess Boards! If you have any new or gently used chess boards that you would be willing to donate we would greatly appreciate it! Donations can be sent in with students and directed toward Caitlin Hussey. Thank you to all the families who have donated already!

Registering for Kindergarten at the OCDSB 

We continue to welcome Kindergarten registrations at Henry Larsen! The OCDSB is the largest school board in Eastern Ontario, with 115 elementary schools across Ottawa. 

We offer:

•  A full day, two year, fully bilingual program (with 50% English instruction and 50% French instruction)
• Dynamic, play-based learning for a fun way to help children learn and discover
• A caring team of educators, with each class having a teacher and early childhood educators
• Extended Day Programs, available before and after school, where your child can participate in activities that support what they learn in school
